PEDRO J. DEL NIDO, MD

Co-Founder

Dr. Pedro del Nido is Chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and William E. Ladd Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, with over 25 years of experience treating pediatric congenital heart defects. Throughout his surgical career Dr. del Nido has also conducted laboratory translational research and has a strong track-record in medical innovation and entrepreneurship, as co-founder of Nido Surgical, Cellvie, and Starlight Cardiovascular. He is the inventor of del Nido Cardioplegia, one of the most commonly used heart preservation solutions for open heart surgery worldwide.
The author of over 500 peer-reviewed publications, and 28 patents and patent applications, his laboratory research work has focused on the design and development of novel medical devices and procedures that address the specific needs of pediatric patients.
Dr. del Nido received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He completed his general surgery training at Boston University Medical Center, cardiothoracic surgery and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery training at Toronto General Hospital, and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
